Medicinal Herbs

Medicinal herbs are high strength, individually tailored, Western liquid herbal formulae that are prepared specifically for you.  They are practitioner-grade herbs only available through a practitioner.  There are over 100 plant-based herbs that can be mixed together in an almost infinite number of combinations.  The right combination of herbs can have a powerful healing effect on your body.

These herbal formulae are mixed in ready-to-take liquid form and taken daily.

Did you know that many medications are based on plants?  The drug company identifies the specific compound in a plant that does the thing they want it to do.  They then reproduce this compound synthetically (manufacture it), put it in a tablet and give it to you.  But the trouble is that you were never meant to take that individual compound alone and this is one of the reasons why many drugs lead to unwanted side effects.

You were meant to take the whole plant (not just the synthetically produced compound).  Nature has created a harmony of natural chemical precision within the whole plant that makes in easy to digest and for your body to use.  It’s one of the reasons why most medicinal herbs are less likely to lead to side effects.*

Bruce or Sonya will diagnose the root cause of your health issue and then prescribe herbs designed to either reduce or eliminate the symptoms you are experiencing.

The human body is a marvelous machine, very capable of fixing itself – but it often needs very specific help to do it.  This is where medicinal herbs come into their own.

Medicinal Herbs and Medications

Medicinal Herbs can be taken concurrently with medications.  Bruce or Sonya will review your medications to ensure there are no contraindications with the herbs they are prescribing.

Most patients take herbs to help correct the root cause of health problems while they continue to take their medications to manage their symptoms to allow them to get on with life.  If we can correct the root cause of a health issue, you may no longer need to take your medication (note this will depend on the medication and you should always consult your GP/specialist before discontinuing them).

Medicinal Herbs & Acupuncture

Often, medicinal herbs are combined with acupuncture to achieve the best result.

*As with any form of health treatment, there is a potential for some side effects to occur.  Generally, with medicinal herbs, if any unwanted side effects do occur, these are usually digestive in nature – for example stomach upset or altered bowel habits. If any unwanted side effects occur, your herbalist will change your herbal formula with the aim of eliminating any side effects.  This said, side effects from our herbal formulae are rare.
